Camping and fishing on Great Barrier Island
Digital Imaging Ambassador
A slow paced life
Great Barrier Island , a couple of shops, petrol station, mechanic and a bar. The Basics. Away from world, away from technology with limited reception. Invited to spend New Years with mates camping and spearfishing wasn’t something I would turn down.
Great Barrier Island has houses but many kiwi baches spread out in the bush, solar panels on top. It’s basic and remote but still the luxuries to pick up a pie, and ice cream at the shops. I decided to walk from the airstrip to Tryphena, see the island a bit more. Every one gives a nod or wave as they drive past, there’s no zombies on buses listening to head phones here. I didn’t take long for a local to offer a ride which was perfect before the hike over the hills started.
There’s no way i go anywhere without taking photos. With an exception to technology I took a couple of cameras. I wanted to keep things simple so just took a basic setup:
–Sony a7rII with FE 16-35mm f/4
-FE 85mm f/1.4
-Sony Rx1rII
–SonyAction Cam x3000
-portable solar panels to charge
