I’ve ridden horses in the mountains, through river I’ve ridden horses in the mountains, through rivers, snow and on ice but never through jungle forests and along the beach. One of our fav things we did in @vanuatuislands.

Plus BIG bonus was not loosing the cameras when we went swimming with the horses.
The empty beaches of Pele Island was easily a high The empty beaches of Pele Island was easily a highlight. Just a short 10min boat trip from the main land. #vanuatuislands
Land diving and the great people of Pentecost Isla Land diving and the great people of Pentecost Island in Vanuatu. Such an experience to meet the tribes and get invited to witness their culture.

Highlight was easily watching them jump from the platforms but another was digging up yams with the chief with the pig tusk necklace. Limited English spoken but we were all giggling together at the odd shaped yam he harvested.

It’s the small things I’ve learnt travelling that are the biggest take away moments, people you meet and why they live where they live.

A lot of positive things to say about Vanuatu.

I was not expecting to see this in Vanuatu, let al I was not expecting to see this in Vanuatu, let alone have it to ourselves for several hours with no one else in sight. Usually a place like this in other countries is swarmed with people in life jackets. We explored our way up the many cascades to the top where there’s a big waterfall, we lazed around, jumped and jumped and laid on edges relaxing from the heat. Unreal day! So close to Port Vila with a 10min drive, would highly recommend.

Have always watched videos as a kid of ‘wild men’ Have always watched videos as a kid of ‘wild men’ jumping off platforms with vines attached to their feet. While photography has taken me a lot of places, it was very much a pinch-me moment witnessing this in Vanuatu.

The origins of land diving (or naghol) are as wild as the ritual itself. According to legend, it was actually a woman who made the first jump, fleeing an angry husband, she climbed a tall tree and tied vines to her ankles. When he followed and jumped without them, he fell to his death. From then on, men began jumping to prove their courage and to make sure they were never outsmarted again.

Getting to Pentecost Island to watch this is a bit of an adventure but relatively mellow. After landing in Port Vila, it’s a short flight across that runs a few times a week. Cows on the runway, a small shack surrounded by jungle as a airport, greeted by the smiliest locals. Guided to the jump sites where we waited patiently for more locals to come watch too. There’s no big signs or tickets, just a platform on the hill, tradition, and that hum of anticipation as the tower comes into view.

Some frames from Sony Kando down in Tasmania. Fun Some frames from Sony Kando down in Tasmania. Fun hangs with an awesome bunch of people. Highlight was getting out on the boat and seeing some of the stunning Tassie cliffs.

Huge respect for the crew that put so many hours into such a unique playground. Seen a heap of behind the scenes but I was seriously blown away from the features for @naturalselectionbike. Mad day.

My girl does amazing art. Proud of what she create My girl does amazing art. Proud of what she creates. As an artist there’s always ups and down, pretty special to see how many people have been appreciating her work lately. I loved capturing her in what inspires her art. @wildandsaltystudio
